Project led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman focuses on Al-Jubail Mosque

The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques will be centred on the three-century-old Al-Jubail Mosque, which is situated in the town of Thaqif, Taif Governorate, in Makkah.

The project seeks to revitalise the Al-Jubail Mosque's architecture and raise public consciousness of the value of maintaining historic mosques.

After restoration, the site's size will increase to 310 square meters, but its 45 worshipper capacity will remain the same.

The mosque will be rebuilt using techniques that preserve its primary component, stones from the Sarawat Mountains, as well as local timber that will be used for the ceilings, pillars, windows, and doorways.

The mosque will continue to have the small apertures that are a hallmark of its distinctive architectural design after being renovated.

Al-Jubail Mosque, which was initially constructed using the resilient juniper timber, will be rebuilt using granite stones rather than cement to preserve the original Sarat artistic design.
