Palestinians honour their efforts and observe Land Day

olitical leaders called for unanimity and unwavering support for the right of return for refugees as thousands of Palestinians observed Land Day on the eastern boundaries of the Gaza Strip and elsewhere.

While other events occurred inside the enclave, in the Palestinian territories, and in Arab cities in Israel, the major sit-in and celebration took place on the frontier on Thursday.

While speakers from the groups spoke, young men bearing Palestinian flags neared the border barrier separating Israel and the Gaza Strip. Canisters of tear gas were launched at the protesters by the Israeli forces.

Arab Israeli residents and Palestinians commemorate the events of March 30, 1976, in Israel on Land Day. In reaction to the Israeli government's declaration of a plan to expropriate thousands of dunams of land, marches and a general strike were organised in Arab communities.

During clashes with Israeli troops, six unarmed Arab residents were slain, 100 were injured, and hundreds more were detained.
