Storm Daniel affects Israel after killing at least 2,000 in Libya


 Storm Daniel, also known as Cyclone Daniel, affected Israel on Wednesday morning. Israel was lashed by heavy rain and floods because of Storm Daniel, which wreaked havoc in Libya this week.

Experts warned of potential flash floods in desert areas in Israel. There were also reports of sinkholes in the center of Israel. Fortunately, Storm Daniel did not cause any injuries in Israel.

Storm Daniel killing people in Libya

Earlier this week, Storm Daniel wreaked havoc in Libya and Greece. Storm Daniel triggered floods in Libya that killed at least 2,000 people. The storm also caused dams to collapse. Storm Daniel also washed away entire neighborhoods in Derna, a port city in eastern Libya. Emergency workers uncovered 2000 dead bodies from the eastern city of Derna. According to the authorities in Libya, the death toll could surpass 5,000. The emergency and Ambulance authority spokespersons said, “Libya was not prepared for a catastrophe like that.”

Tamer Ramadan, Libya envoy for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, revealed that at least 10,000 people were missing because of Storm Daniel. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged international organizations to provide humanitarian assistance to people in Libya. 

Earlier, the strong storm affected Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece, killing at least 18 people. According to the scientists, the storm was caused because of climate change.

How is Storm Daniel linked to climate change?

Professor Suzanne Gray, a meteorologist at the University of Reading, linked Storm Daniel to climate change. Professor Suzanne Gray said that the storm can cause extreme flooding and fierce winds.

Karsten Haustein, a climate scientist from Leipzig University, said that abnormal heat increased the rainfall caused by Storm Daniel. Karsten Haustein said that the warm water has the potential to increase rainfall.

Professor Liz Stephens of Reading University in the United Kingdom said that climate change can boost rainfall associated with strong storms like the Storm Daniel.
