King Mohammed VI of Morocco Demonstrates Solidarity and Compassion Amid Earthquake Tragedy

In the wake of a devastating earthquake that struck Morocco, King Mohammed VI has shown unwavering solidarity with his nation, offering solace and support to those affected by the disaster. On Tuesday, the monarch visited an area near the epicenter of the earthquake, displaying an exceptional act of compassion by donating his royal blood to aid the injured.

King Mohammed VI embarked on a poignant visit to the hospital in Marrakech that bears his name, where he meticulously inspected the facility and inquired about the recovery services and care provided to the earthquake survivors. The Moroccan state news agency, MAP, reported on this royal visit, highlighting the king's deep concern for the well-being of those impacted by the tragic event.

Photographs from the visit captured poignant moments of the king's interactions with patients. He was seen bending over to bestow a kiss on the head of a young boy and offering comfort to an older man. In a surprising and touching gesture, King Mohammed VI, usually reserved for special occasions, rolled up his shirt sleeve, took off his coat, and revealed his suspenders, sitting in a chair with his arm ready to donate blood.

Throughout Morocco, blood donations have become a symbol of national unity and solidarity in the face of adversity. Moroccans in Marrakech and other cities lined up to contribute blood to assist those injured in the earthquake.

The earthquake, which had its epicenter in the Atlas Mountains, inflicted a devastating toll, claiming the lives of over 2,900 people, primarily in mountainous towns and villages, and leaving more than 2,000 others injured. As of Tuesday, over 240 of the injured were receiving medical treatment in hospitals within the Marrakech region.

The seismic event also left its mark on Marrakech's historic city, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 12th century. Videos circulated online showing dust billowing from parts of the renowned Koutoubia Mosque, one of Marrakech's iconic landmarks. The city also houses one of King Mohammed VI's royal palaces, underscoring the profound impact of the earthquake on the nation's cultural heritage.

In these trying times, King Mohammed VI's compassionate actions serve as a source of inspiration and unity for the Moroccan people as they come together to heal and rebuild their communities in the face of adversity.
