Saudi Authorities Crack Down on Residency and Border Violations: Over 11,000 Arrests in One Week

In a comprehensive effort to enforce immigration and border security regulations, Saudi Arabian authorities have arrested a staggering 11,465 individuals in just one week, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

According to an official report, these arrests encompassed a range of violations, with 7,199 individuals apprehended for breaching residency laws, 2,882 for illegal border crossings, and an additional 1,384 for labor-related infractions.

The report further reveals that of the 711 individuals arrested while attempting illegal entry into the Kingdom, 52 percent hailed from Yemen, 45 percent from Ethiopia, while the remaining 3 percent represented various other nationalities. Additionally, 14 people were intercepted attempting to cross into neighboring countries, and another 15 were taken into custody for their involvement in transporting and harboring individuals in violation of the law.

In response to these arrests, authorities have taken significant steps to address the situation. So far, 38,379 offenders have been transferred to their respective diplomatic missions to facilitate the issuance of travel documents, while 1,704 individuals were transferred to complete their travel reservations. Furthermore, 7,922 individuals were deported in compliance with the regulations.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior has issued a stern warning that anyone found aiding and abetting illegal entry into the Kingdom, including those providing transportation and shelter, could face severe penalties. These penalties may include imprisonment for up to 15 years, fines of up to SR1 million ($260,000), or the confiscation of vehicles and property.

To facilitate reporting of suspected violations, a toll-free hotline has been established. In the Makkah and Riyadh regions, individuals can report such violations by dialing 911, while residents in other regions of the Kingdom can use either 999 or 996.

Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to enforcing its immigration and border security regulations underscores the nation's dedication to maintaining the integrity of its borders and ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents and visitors.
