Will Israel Agree to a Hostage and Ceasefire Deal with Hamas?

Approximately two weeks ago, President Joe Biden announced a three-day ceasefire with Hamas expressing willingness to release around 50 hostages. However, despite these developments, Israel proceeded with a ground invasion, launching airstrikes on refugee camps, resulting in the death of over 5,000 Palestinian civilians. Incidents included the raid on Al-Shifa hospital and the bombardment of schools.

In the current situation, the White House suggests a potential deal, with President Biden cautiously optimistic. While he acknowledges ongoing developments, details are not disclosed at this point. Palestinian sources indicate that a proposed five-day ceasefire could involve the exchange of hostages for prisoners in Israeli jails.

If the truce materializes, it could encompass the exchange of up to 100 Israeli civilian and foreign hostages and 300 Palestinians. Additionally, Hamas has put forth the demand for 300 trucks of food and medical aid to be allowed into the besieged Gaza Strip.
