Amir Ramzan Appointed as British Council's Regional Director for Middle East and North Africa


 Amir Ramzan has assumed the role of Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) at the British Council, where he will lead teams across 17 countries in the region. In this capacity, he will oversee the British Council MENA's initiatives in Arts, English, and education, with a primary objective of fostering deeper connections, mutual understanding, and trust between the UK and the MENA region.

Amir expressed his enthusiasm about his new role, stating, "I am looking forward to working with our partners in the region and the UK and supporting new collaborations as well as building upon existing connections so we can continue to make a difference in young people's lives."

Amir's journey with the British Council began as a teacher, and he steadily advanced through the organization's ranks. His previous roles include serving as Deputy Director in British Council Syria, where he effectively managed English, Teaching, and Exams activities. During his tenure in Syria, he played a crucial role in various initiatives.

Subsequently, Amir held positions as Deputy Director in Nigeria and later as Country Director in Iraq from 2014 to 2016. While in Iraq, he led efforts to enhance access to quality education for children affected by conflict and facilitated dialogue among diverse communities.

From 2016 to 2019, Amir served as the Country Director in Saudi Arabia and Gulf Lead, demonstrating his commitment to the British Council's mission across different regions. Since 2019, he has held the position of Country Director in Pakistan, where he successfully managed one of the British Council's largest operations, even in the face of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amir Ramzan's extensive experience and dedication to educational and cultural initiatives make him a valuable addition to the British Council's leadership team in the MENA region. His appointment reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to promoting collaboration and understanding between the UK and the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.
