German Chancellor Welcomes Saudi-Led Summit on Ukraine Peace Settlement

 In a significant development aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed his support for a recent Saudi-led summit focused on a peace settlement. The summit, attended by representatives from over 40 nations including China, Germany, India, and the United States, took place in Jeddah last weekend, marking a concerted effort to bring an end to the hostilities.

Chancellor Scholz has underlined the importance of sustained diplomatic dialogue in pressuring Russia to reassess its approach and withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory. He conveyed his sentiments during his annual summer interview with German broadcaster ZDF, emphasizing the value of continued talks to foster a climate conducive to peace.

This recent initiative comes on the heels of similar international discussions held in Copenhagen in June, underscoring the global community's determination to find a viable pathway to peace. Chancellor Scholz hailed both the Danish and Saudi Arabian talks as "very special" and acknowledged their significant role in shaping the ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The Saudi summit saw Ukraine present a comprehensive 10-point peace plan, which included a key demand for the complete withdrawal of Russian forces from its territory.
