Understanding Homosexuality: Exploring Sexual Orientation That Is Not As Common

A Psychologist's View on Understanding Sexual Orientation

A person's sexual orientation, which is a component of their identity, indicates their level of sexual or romantic attraction to others. It is a complex, multifaceted concept that encompasses a wide range of items, emotions, and modes of expression. Despite the fact that heterosexual, gay, and bisexual orientations are the most prevalent, the range of sexuality include a broad variety of other orientations and preferences. One of these is being a gynosexual.

The prefix "gyno" derives from the Greek word "gynaika," which signifies "woman." As a result, a gynosexual is someone who finds themselves attracted to someone who acts or thinks like a woman.

The most basic definition of homosexuality is loving or appreciating people who behave in a feminine manner. However, it doesn't always have to be a lady. Shinjini Deb, a clinical psychologist in Kolkata, asserts that anyone with feminine features, regardless of gender, may pique one's interest. She went on to suggest that homosexuality is frequently linked to attraction to the physical traits and qualities of another person.

The same was stated by clinical psychologist Aishwarya Raj in Delhi-NCR. If you believe that your sexual desire is primarily directed toward women or femininity and that this attraction plays a significant role in defining your sexual identity, you may identify as gynosexual, according to her.

According to Bloom Community's lexicon of sex-positive terminology, trans activists first started using the term "gynosexual" in 2014 as an alternative to the word "lesbian," which is usually interpreted as excluding transgender people. "The phrase immediately acquired popularity in the LGBTQIA+ community and internationally because it is inclusive. Without making any assumptions about a person's sex at birth or physical traits, it discusses gendered attraction, the website stated.
