King Salman of Saudi Arabia has extended an invitation to the President of Syria to attend the upcoming summit of the Arab League.

According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency on Wednesday, King Salman has extended an invitation to President Bashar Al-Assad of Syria to attend the upcoming Arab League meeting, scheduled to take place in the Kingdom on May 19. The invitation was delivered by Naif bin Bandar Al-Sudairi, the Kingdom's ambassador to Jordan, during a meeting with the Syrian president in Damascus.

During the meeting, Al-Sudairi conveyed the greetings and well wishes of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Al-Assad, hoping for the Syrian government and people to have security and stability. In response, Al-Assad expressed his gratitude and conveyed his greetings to the king and crown prince.

It is worth noting that Syria's membership in the Arab League was recently restored during a meeting in Cairo on Sunday. The country's membership had been suspended following its crackdown on mass protests against Al-Assad in 2011, which eventually led to a civil war that resulted in the deaths of nearly half a million people and the displacement of half of the country's pre-war population of 23 million.
