At the UN forum, Saudi Arabia received praise for its achievements in the field of environmental sustainability.


 Saudi Arabia Praised for Green Achievements at 18th Session of UN Forum on Forests

Represented by the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification, Saudi Arabia attended the 18th session of the UN Forum on Forests, which took place in New York City from May 8-12. The center used the event as an opportunity to showcase its initiatives, ambitious plans, and achievements related to forest development, protection, and sustainability under the framework of the Saudi Green Initiative.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature discussed opportunities for forest ecosystem restoration, as well as the G20 Global Land Initiative. The forum praised the center's initiative to plant 60 million trees and rehabilitate 300,000 hectares of forest lands and valleys. Additionally, the implementation of the national forest strategy's programs and projects was lauded.

The forum also announced that Saudi Arabia will host the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification.

Representatives from various delegations of UN member states, including ambassadors and country and organization representatives, attended the event. They expressed their admiration for the Kingdom's ambitious work and environmental achievements.

The UNFF meets annually at UN headquarters in New York City to protect, develop, and sustain forests around the world. It aims to promote social development, improve livelihoods, and contribute to poverty eradication at a time when forests are threatened by unsustainable practices and economic crises. The forum provides a platform to discuss solutions and share best practices on how to safeguard and sustainably manage the world's forests.
