As Israel continues to punish Palestine for Hamas’ Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, Egypt is looking to protect its backyard as airstrikes hit the Rafah border crossing. The Israeli air raid, the third consecutive attack on the crossing in 24 hours, targeted the Palestinian side.
Alarmed by the escalation in attacks from Israel and Palestine, Egypt has urged both sides to provide safe passage for civilians from the besieged Gaza enclave. Humanitarian groups have also pleaded with Israel to create corridors in an effort to get aid into Gaza.
It should be noted that Israel has stopped entry of food, fuel, and medicines into Gaza, and now the Rafah crossing has been forced to close.
Israel – Palestine Conflict Threatens Stability
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry raised concerns about the large-scale Israeli bombing against the Palestinian people in Gaza. He warned against the expansion of the scope of the ongoing conflict as it would threaten the stability of the region and safety of its people.
On Monday, Egypt warned Israel against attempting to force Palestinians in the Gaza Strip into Sinai, a massive displacement of Palestinians, to escape the deadly shelling and air strikes. Egypt emphasized the danger of calls for mass population movement that will empty the Gaza Strip and liquidate the Palestine issue itself.
Saudi Arabia Supports Palestine
Meanwhile, the Saudi Crown Prince reaffirmed the kingdom’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights. Mohammed bin Salman stressed the significance of upholding international humanitarian law and refraining from targeting civilians. He said Saudi Arabia stands with the Palestinian people in their pursuit of legitimate rights and dignified life.
