According to the Egyptian army, troops trapped in Sudan should either return home or visit the embassy

According to military announcements, three aircraft transporting 177 Egyptian servicemen from Sudan have landed in Cairo. A separate group of 27 air force personnel is being looked after by the Egyptian embassy in Sudan.

Fights between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have shaken Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, as well as its sister cities Omdurman and Bahri, leaving thousands trapped and depleting food supplies.

Following its Saturday assault on the Merowe air facility in northern Sudan, the RSF reported that it had detained 27 members of the Egyptian air force.

On Thursday, the Sudanese army issued a statement revising a previous one that said the 177 people who were evacuated from the town of Dongola had been taken prisoner by the RSF at the camp in Meroe.

According to a cooperative treaty between the two nations, the soldiers were in Sudan for training, according to the Egyptian military. Since the start of diplomatic difficulties with Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan have participated in a number of joint drills.
