The holy month of Ramadan will begin on Thursday, March 23, according to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), which is home to the two holiest cities in Islam, Mecca and Medina.
The Two Holy Cities or Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques tweeted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has not seen the crescent for the month of Ramadan 1444 as of today. The first day of Ramadan 1444 will thus be Thursday, March 23, 2023.
The Islamic Hijri calendar month of Shaban, which comes before Ramadan, will conclude on March 22, according to a decision made by the Saudi Supreme Court on Tuesday evening. Ramadan, Islam's holiest month, would then start the following day. The crescent moon during Ramadan, nevertheless, was not visible on Tuesday night. The seeing committee also verified the Saudi Arabian date for Ramadan in 2023.
Muslims in Saudi Arabia were urged to look for the Ramadan crescent moon, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia urged people to observe the crescent moon during Ramadan and report it to the closest court.
